Cookie policy

The small amount we store in your browser, and why. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

In short

  • We use one cookie in the member app, only to keep you signed in.
  • The public website sets no cookies.
  • Analytics are self-hosted, cookieless and store no identifier for you.
  • A few preferences, like muted message sounds, are remembered in your browser and never sent to us.

01Cookies and browser storage

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Browser storage (local storage) works similarly, but its contents stay in your browser and are not sent to the website with each request. This policy covers both.

02Cookies we use

Only strictly necessary cookies, which the service cannot work without. The law does not require consent for these, and there is nothing to switch off.

If you turn on notifications, your browser also installs a small service worker from our site so notifications can arrive when the app is closed. Turning notifications off in Settings, Notifications, or in your browser, stops it.

04Analytics without cookies

We run our own copy of Umami, on our own servers, to see overall traffic: page views, where visitors come from, approximate country and device type. Umami does not use cookies or local storage, does not store an identifier for you, and cannot follow you across visits or websites. Member and conversation identifiers are removed from addresses before they are recorded.

05What we do not use

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Third-party tracking pixels or social media trackers
  • Cross-site tracking or fingerprinting for profiling
  • Cookies from analytics companies

06Your choices

You can clear cookies and site data in your browser at any time; you will be signed out and your preferences above will reset. Blocking the sign-in cookie stops you signing in to the member app. Instructions: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari.

07Changes to this policy

If we add or change anything stored in your browser, we update this page and the date at the top first.
